Thomas Here We Come...

Will wanted to share with everyone that he is officially going to spend a day out with Thomas in April! He's not excited yet but I am hoping as we tell him more about it, he will be. He's more excited when pull up to Target and the first thing he says is Choo Choo Trains...gotta break that habit.

This is like a second birthday gift for him. Since his birthday falls in the middle of winter it makes it really hard to plan something for a 2 year old. We were planning for him to go to a jump zone. Then the whole broken foot messed that plan up. So we knew when it got nice that we would take him on a train adventure. Daddy did a little research on Thomas's web site and found out that Thomas will be in our area!

It looks completely amazing! There are train rides, play centers, and a whole bunch of other activities. Can't wait for him to have this experience. I think I am more excited than him!

CSN Store Review Sneak Peak!

I don't know about you, but my time is super precious. Working part time and being a full time mom. It is so convenient to know there is a online store like CSN. No matter what you need, be it kids bedding, a new frying pan, or new curtains for your living room, you'll find it there.

CSN, is a collection of 200+ stores (tons more about them here), is sponsoring a review here at Happenings of a Little Bubba. We are so excited to do it! Cookware.com is one of their stores, and while checking out their site, I was super impressed by the selection and even prices that they had available on a variety of kitchen items.

In our house, I typically do the cooking which is a good thing. Lew is not much of a cook! We try and live a very healthy lifestyle and I try and cook that way as often as possible. While our palates (ours more than Will's) are flexible and I love to try different kinds of cuisine, I tend to stick with what my mom or sisters have taught me over the years. Which is a lot of the same, chicken stir fry with veggies or other variations of that. For Will's sake, I keep it simple! I use my one stir fry pan a lot and it is beginning to see its day. But you know it is hard to part with an old faithful. I use it for everything. A little olive oil and throw the veggies in and you are good to go.

That is why I am so excited to be featuring this awesome one above in a review in an upcoming post. It’s a Rachael Ray Porcelain Enamel 10" Open Skillet in Blue, and I cannot wait to cook some of my mom's recipes in it!

a little random...

While we were down and out with the flu we won our first giveaway! Lew is going to enjoy some wonderful coffee. Thanks Krystyn! Check out her blog here for great stories of her family and even some giveaways.

While being sick I came totally obsessed with watching Dr. Oz. Don't ask me why. But he actually is quite interesting. I think I am going to check out one of his books at the library.

The morning after Will got sick. We went to the store to get some extra cleaning supplies, lot of good that did. Anyway Will saw McDonald's and said he wanted french fries. Is this kid for real? I can barely look at a food commercial when I am sick.

Will is slowly beginning to walk again after the cast removal. I was kind of hoping he would walk faster but getting sick definitely slowed us down. We would walk around the neighborhood but there is still SNOW everywhere. Yesterday we attempted to and it took us about 45 minutes!

Will got a new bed in preparation for eventually switching to a toddler bed.

2 weeks tell the Wee Sale! If you have not heard me talk about it before it is a huge consignment sale that is held everything spring and fall here where we live. They have everything! I am able to put Will in boutique clothes for half the cost. So excited for it!

Haven't posted any pictures yet of Will's new haircut or his cast less leg because he has not been in the mood lately. When I tell him to smile, he looks the other way. I think the two's are definitely here.

Sorry for this somewhat lame post. I promise they will be better next week. Maybe even some pictures.

the flu blues...

I think I have forgotten how to blog after the flu train went through our house. But I am back.
Will got sick Wednesday night into Thursday.
I got sick Friday into Saturday.
Daddy got sick Sunday into Monday.
Let me just say it was not the cold flu bloggy friends.
It was the other one.
The one that I hate.
I think it might have made re-think having more children kind of flu.
Sorry...this is it for now. I will be back to regular blogging tomorrow.
Going to catch up on some bloggy reading now.

one busy day...

A day away from blogging and I feel like I have missed so much!
Yesterday we had many errands and doctors visits to attend to like...
WILL GOT HIS CAST OFF!
The ortho. doctor said it is still healing but he did not want to have to put another cast on the little bubba which I am so thankful for. Let me tell you...his foot SMELLED! And BAD!
He is not really walking on it but we think over time he will re-discover his walking abilities and put some weight on it.
Then we had a 2 year checkup for him which was scheduled months ago and just so happened to be the day of operation cast removal. Not such a good idea.
He had to get his last hibb shot and he is just not a fan of the doctors. He loves the play area but as soon as they call his name the tears start a rolling. I love his doctor though because he tries to make seeing him fun. Attempts to.
Will however has measurements and a weight that the doctor considers him a bean pole! He is in the 95% for his height and his weight was about the 60%. The men in our family on average are a little above 6 foot. So I think I have a 6 footer on my hands.
We also got bubsy's haircut. It is now a buzz cut. He just hates getting it cut so we thought shorter is better right now until he can sit still in a chair. Pics to come!
Well...I have to get off now and make preschool phone calls.

Hotty Hot Sauce Will and Some Chocolate Overload...

For Valentine's Day we kept it low key. We did go out to dinner to Chili's the night before to have a little family celebration of heart day.
I wish I would have brought my camera b/c Will with spoon in hand dived into the salsa and took a heaping bite. I hate to say it was funny, but it was until he was trying to wipe off his tongue with his hands. YIKES! A drink of milk and he was okay. Will loves anything hot and spicy though, maybe b/c I ate so much spice when I was pregnant, who knows.
He is not a double dipper but more like a dozen dipper. He licks the salsa off and dips his chip in for more. He even does this with queso. The boy is an addict!
Me, I enjoyed my margarita and chicken tacos with tons of salsa! Definitely runs in the family.
Since we did not have dessert there which we normally don't. I wanted to do something special for heart day. So I bought a cheesecake and added some "homemade" touches to it. Treats like this our pretty rare in our house so I think I took it to the extreme. As you can see.
I added organic frozen raspberries and milk chocolate over the top. I added a bit too much chocolate but when you splurge like this, why not go all the way. One slice won't do much damage on the abs. Let me just say, it was YUMMY!

The Snow Has Made Us...

Look at ourself in the mirror...

Finger paint...

Ride our scooter...with a cast still on...

Have crazy hair...

Look at our backyard with the endless amount of snow...

Eat cookie dough...
Guess what? Monday/Tuesday they are calling for more snow! Please. Please. Please.
No more!

My boys..

Being that Valentines Day is right around the corner, I thought I would share with the bloggy world how my sweet Lew proposed to me...So Will pay attention. Because your dad definitely knows how to melt my heart and I am sure he will teach you everything he learned from his dad.

We had been dating for 3 years and had planned a trip to NYC. It was around Easter and I thought nothing of it.

Well...when we got there it was late and Lew and I hopped into a cab, him telling me we were going to go out to dinner. When he took be to Central Park for a carriage ride. As we were riding a long he asked me to spend the rest of his life with him. We just so happened to be right next to Tavern on the Green when he did it and it was just the most beautiful setting. We then went right back to the hotel, which was the Ritz in Battery Park. Such a beautiful place!!!

I was surprised with roses and champagne and the most amazing dinner. The whole weekend was spent shopping, eating amazing food, room service and going to see the Lion King. I was treated like such a princess that weekend and I will absolutely never forget it.

I hope that one day Will will do the same for the one that he falls in love with. With that face how can anyone say, no.

A Whole Lot of Nada...

  • So tired of giving Will sponge baths! I am seriously hoping his ortho doc is not closed tomorrow from all this snow. I want the cast off!
  • We got 27 inches of snow this past weekend and right now I am looking at MORE snow coming down...maybe 20 more inches. Lucky us.
  • Since Will has had the cast on he has become very stubborn when it comes to cleanliness. Doesn't want to get his ears cleaned, doesn't want to wash his hands, and hates the sponge bath. He says, "All clean" over and over. It is pretty hilarious but starting to get old. I feel bad for him.
  • I did something to my knee while shoveling the last snow and am afraid it might require a doctor visit. I can usually shake off knee pains and what not but it is still hurting.
  • I am going to make chicken soup today. Why not. Also going to make cookies. Again, why not. I think we might be stuck for days!
  • Will repeats pretty much everything we say these days. His favorite word to say though is, "Awesome".
  • Just watched Time Travelers Wife last night...it was good. Not as good as I thought it would be. But I love Rachel McAdams. Super talented.
  • Reading a pretty unknown book called, Come Sunday and I can't put it down. Really good!

Well...that's all I got. Sorry it is not much. Hopefully I will be able to post a pic tomorrow of a castless Will. Please!

Will's Birth Story...

Just recently I got a letter from my obgyn saying he was leaving his practice to go and travel to Africa with his children. Which it made me think back to Will's birth.
I was a little sad at first because he delivered Will, well no he only half delivered Will. It was actually nurse Molly who did. So to say that he is going to Africa I was happy for him and for me. Don't get me wrong he is an AWESOME ob but he let me down.
When I was pregnant and I saw him monthly, then every two weeks, and then weekly. He always asked me at the end...do you have any questions or concerns. Why yes...I do, "Please Dr. Promise don't let me tear!" I told him that at every appointment. I think he even had it in my chart.
At my 39 week check up I was tired and run down. I was still training clients and I was teaching kickboxing! What the H was I thinking? So Dr. Promise asked if I wanted to be induced. I totally said yes! I jumped on the chance. Again, what the H was I thinking?
So it was set. I was to go in the hospital at 12:01 am on Jan. 23. When we got there, I got one of those fashionable gowns and was ready but tired. I was kind of hoping to have something to help me sleep as they started the petoccin. No luck. At 1am...I started having mini contractions and I thought to myself, I can handle this!
My older sister had told me all about her 3 births and she had good experiences with an epidural. She said she barely felt a thing after it. Well, I wanted to be a trooper and take them as long as I could, and I did. By 4am, those suckers were coming on so strong, I was hyper tensing and they had to lower the petoccin. Thank goodness for that. I thought I wanted to walk around at 5:30am but by then I was just ready for the epidural. Got that and it wasn't that bad. I was in bliss! Glad I did because if I only knew what the next couple of hours would lead to, I would have gotten that thing earlier!
Meanwhile nurse Molly is the bomb and she checks me every so often, gets me ice chips, says encouraging words. Loved nurse Molly. Dr. Promise doesn't make an appearance tell 7:30am. At that time he breaks my water and tells me I am at 9cm. He tells nurse Molly to get me started on "practice" pushing. I was like you can't leave! He told me that it would be a couple of hours before Will would make an appearance and that he would be downstairs in his office seeing to his other patients. HE would come back as soon as we got close. I start thinking to myself, I should have gone to a practice with MANY ob's. But I liked my doctor and I chose to stand by him. Again...what the H was I thinking?
So practice pushing became real pushing and I was feeling everything! The epidural was wearing off, I told nurse Molly I needed more that I did not want to feel anything! I think they gave me 2 extra doses but somehow, I was still feeling everything! Will kept popping in and out because I would get so exhausted. During this whole time I guess Nurse Molly was in contact with Dr. Promise on updating my status. Will was still in there she would say. At one point I felt so much pain and tugging down you know where. I thought I was going to grab Nurse Molly and throw her across the room. But later I found out that Will had his hand by his face and she was trying to move it so he could deliver easily.
Okay...so you got that we started at 7:30am with the pushing. By now it is 11:30am and I everyone is yelling at me...keep pushing you can do it! I was like just get him out!!! Then I could see some panic on Nurse Molly's face. She is calling her call desk and saying, I cannot get a hold of Dr. Promise. Someone 911 him and tell him to get up here. I was like what is wrong? She said Will is about to come. I kept saying I have to push and everyone was yelling, "Don't push!" I guess at this point Nurse Molly has delivered Will's big ole' head. Just then Dr. Promise comes in and said okay...hold on a sec. Then he turns and saw Will sticking out. Okay...there is no sec. Ahhh...yeah!
One push more and Will was out at 11:54am. What the heck did Dr. Promise do? It was all Nurse Molly. She was a kick ass nurse let me tell you! Then Dr. Promise stitched me up with more than a couple stitches. Yeah...you heard that right, I tore! He promised! I ended up having a 4th degree tear!
Everyone in my family still laughs at me because when they put Will on me, all I could say was, "Oh My God." Over and over. I was probably saying that not only for Will but I had a huge, gigantic hole down there!
Don't get me wrong my prenatal care was all rainbows and unicorns. But the birth yeah, that was lightning and crocodiles(just made that up, creative huh?) I even asked Dr. Promise on my post natal check up what had happened and why he didn't get there fast enough. He did say sorry and that being only one ob in his practice has his down falls and I just happened to be one of those. Shortly after Will's birth he added another ob. Just so you know. I have switched to her. She is the one that is taking over his practice when he goes to Africa.
Now you know the whole story. Not so bad labor. Pushing for 4 and a half hours bad. But this is what we got...Will on Jan. 25th going home with us. Too sweet.

It is amazing how us mom's can forget about the pain and do it all over again. But frankly I am so reluctant to have another kid anytime soon because I do not want to tear that bad again. Everyone is asking when we do it again. I definitely want Will to have a sibling and I am thinking once he is self sufficient. Thankfully that could be a while.
I thought I would throw this pic in as well. It is one of my favorites of Lew and myself. Will was just a little peanut inside me. But we had such a great time even though I couldn't enjoy cocktails!

I call this picture, "Before the storm hit."
What was your birthing experience like? What it as challenging as mine? Or was your birth rainbows and unicorns? I would love to hear.

Diaper Duty...

Right around the time when Will turned one, I switched to Target brand diapers. I know you have seen them. The Up brand. I was completely and utterly impressed with them. For Will's first year we had used Pampers because I thought they were the best for him.

But when I opened the package of the Target brand and saw the cute green and blue polka dots on them, I knew I had a winner. Everyone who saw him in the diapers wondered who made them and where they could get them. Like they were some kind of designer diaper.

Not only are these diapers cheaper than the other brands they don't leak! We have not had one accident.

Then just last week, I was in need of diapers and did not have time to run by Target. So I ended up getting him Pampers at the grocery store. Let me tell you, 3 nights in a row Will wet himself and we had to have a pj change. Not fun for him or me.

I am not reviewing this product but would totally do it because Target's Up diapers are the best by far! Kudos to you Target for making this mommy super happy!

What kind of diapers do you use? Have you tried Target's diapers? Would love to hear.

The "IN"side Scoop on Trains...

Will definitely can tell you the "in"side scoop of trains. Can't reach it? Climb on in!
Blue cast and all. And yes, his head was stuck. A little PB and I got it out. Just kidding!!

Much better Will...much better.
